On April 21st, Brad Ashton gave a fascinating presentation entitled ‘The Job of a Laughtime’
Brad has been a scriptwriter for an unbelievable number of Radio and TV comedians. He spoke without a script about his experiences of creating jokes for incredibly well known performers. He told us anecdotes about writing for comedians such as Ken Dodd, Les Dawson, Tommy Cooper, Benny Hill, Bruce Forsyth, etc., etc. – bringing out the characters of these stars as he talked.
He told us a number of his own jokes, and, true showman that he is, got the audience to ‘unmute’ themselves so that he could get direct feedback from his performance.
We may be asking Brad back for a second talk – because he couldn’t cover all the ‘greats’ he’s worked with in the time allowed!
