Talk on 3rd November 2021

On November 3rd, Bob Soper gave us a talk on ” Motor Sport’s Golden Age (1955-1976)”.

Bob worked as a mechanic in the family’s small garage in Chapel Allerton. In the mid-1950s there was always a long waiting list for new cars, if they could be afforded, so Bob specialized in reconditioning old MGs and later Minis. During the late 1950s he developed, sold and fitted superchargers and other speed-related accessories. He took part in sprints and hill climbs, including that at Harewood, and later drag racing events at Church Fenton. Bob told us about his fascinating life in motor sports for enthusiasts, until it became too expensive and mass-production cars got better, and faster.
