Wow, what a talk! David Davies has just given a talk to Probus about our recent history (the Thatcher era).
Quite a brave topic, given that she’s such a controversial figure, even now.
The Coal miners’ strike and the Falklands war gave us lots to think about, all in 40 minutes! My recollection of the fervour around that war was put in context when David reminded us that it was all over in 3 months, from start to finish! The contrast with the ‘wars’ that happen now, especially in the Middle East, that seem to have become a way of life, not a tragic/ necessary event.Do you think we Should be having talks on politics in our club? I do!
