Talk on 1st September 2021

On September 1st, Robert Stewart talked about ‘An Early Interest In Crime’. Robert became a solicitor following an innocent encounter as a young boy with a dangerous criminal. He worked in a branch office in Bingley for many years and his talk provided interesting pen portraits of many of the characters he met and the true incidents he was involved in while acting as a defence advocate.

Robert painted a vivid picture of the market town of the 1970s, with the escape of clients from police cells with the help of smuggled hacksaw blades provided by friends, his accompanying the local mother of a son sentenced to death in Hong Kong for a murder committed there, and the support of an elderly woman accused of shoplifting unneeded food from a store in bizarre circumstances.
